Act IV, Intervention

“Cause Buffy… The other, not so pleasant Buffy… Anything happened to Dawn, it’d destroy her. I couldn’t live her being in that much pain. Let Glory destroy me first. Nearly bloody did.”

In that mere moment something was triggered. Was it the words in themselves? Or was it the true compassion reflecting behind his eyes?

Buffy began to lean in. Spike caught onto her mouth and drew his, which was covered in bruises and cuts, toward hers.

Their lips lightly brushed against one another for a few moments before Spike finally pulled away.

Staring at her first with confusion, then wonder and then a sudden realisation of what had just occurred. There were so many words she could’ve used to to show her gratitude. So many ways she could’ve said thank you.

But she did it with a kiss.

He spoke again softly,
“And my robot?”

Buffy, who was now facing away, replied,
“The robot is gone. The robot was gross and obscene.”

“That wasn’t supposed to-“

“Don’t. That… thing, it… It wasn’t even real. What you did, for me, and Dawn… That was real. I won’t forget it.”

Now in a state of complete shock, Spike watched Buffy walk out. And as she closed the door to his crypt behind her, he knew this was something simple enough to never be brought up again.
